Eclectus roratus polychloros
I really can't comment on the pet quality of eclectus.  I've never had one as a pet.  I got this pair of red-sided eclectus last year.  I'm as sure as I can be that they're true red-sides.
Viko, the male, is very tame and friendly towards me when I'm feeding them.   Eclectus seem to be very calm, contemplative birds.
Noise - Eclectus are supposed to be one of the "quiet" parrots.   It is true they don't seem to vocalize with any extended frequency, however, their tonal quality when they do scream really bothers me.  I really never thought I would be bothered by any parrot noises until I got the eclectus.  I've had moluccan, umbrella, goffin cockatoos, conures, macaws - all screaming in my face and none of their vocalizations bother me.  The eclectus' natural scream really rattles my teeth.  I'd have to say that when you're parrot shopping, go find an adult specimen, get really close and have it scream in your face for several minutes and see if you can stand the noise.
Food!! If you do some research you'll read that eclectus love food.  While most parrots enjoy a large variety of foods, the eclectus are definitely the foodies of the bird world.  My eclectus do get very excited about feeding time.  It's hard to describe.  If you're a foodie and live for food, you understand what I mean.

Viko (Male Red-Sided Eclectus)

Babe (Female Red-Sided Eclectus)
Viko and Babe are eight years old.  Thus far they've had two infertile clutches of eggs.  They do seem to love each other as much as eclectus do.  He feeds her, she solicits his affections, but I have yet to see him do "the deed".

  1. I totally agree with this my family has an si and his call is so hard to deal with at times. Anytime he becomes startled from his daydreaming state or if someone walks in our out of the room fast its ear piercing. They are quiet for the most part but expect to hear this call multiple times throughout the day!
